I would be a career woman in the next five years. In first two years, I would be graduated from college. Most people graduate their schools without specific goals, especially jobs. They’re usually jobless for a while, doing nothing. However, I will definitely prepare for my future during my campus life. After graduation, I’d like to take a break for a couple of months. I will be traveling, hanging out with my family and friends, and taking foreign language classes in a private institute. Then, I would be ready for starting a new life – working! I’ve always wanted to work in International Organizations, especially UNICEF. By that time, I will probably be a rooki, so everything will be different from what I used to experience. Nevertheless, helping poor kids has always been my dream job, so I’m sure that I’ll be proud of myself to have a job like that. If I make a lot of money, that will be awesome, but I think I won’t care about finance much.
Besides working, I would be engaged with my boyfriend and get married soon. Also, I would give myself some time to enjoy my life fully. For example, watching movies all day long on weekends, traveling around the world during vacations would be great. In addition, I will try new things like learning something I’ve never done before. I want my life full of challenges and adventures so that it can be enjoyable!
Lee Kun-hee, a great Tycoon of Korean business, resigned as Chief Executive Officer of Samsung in April 28th. It is one of the most surprising social issues in Korea because Samsung has been an untouchable ‘thing’, especially its owner. He hadn’t planned to resign, but there was a whistle-blower in his company. Kim Yong-chul revealed that Lee had a great amount of hidden money in his personal account and had also committed tax-evasion and breach of trust which are serious problems in Korean society. Being exposed Lee’s charge made Koreans really angry and finally, the government of Korea summoned Lee to investigate every single thing about Samsung’s hidden stories. After a couple of weeks, Lee decided to take responsibility for his behavior. In his resignation speech, he announced that all of his family members(his wife, his son and himself) would resign from their positions and disband family-run systems of Samsung. With retreat of Korean Tycoon, it may influnce on many aspects of Korean society : not only economy but also politics and culture.
I’m interested in this issue because Samsung has a great power not only in Korea but also around the world. Lee Kun-hee’s leadership has been a big problem for years. However, no one has raised questions or complained about it. Now he has been kicked out by Koreans. I think this shows how mature Korean democracy is. We’re grown up enough to make a great tycoon fall. What’s more, I’m sure that Korean Chabol’s dynastic leadership from father to son will be changed sooner or later. Though Samsung will have a hard time innovating, they will have to face the fact that there is no ‘king’ anymore.
Good afternoon, Ms. Johnson. I’m Gaeun, the President of the Association of Korean Studies. Thank you for your e-mail, I really appreciate it. We will have a conference next month at the Walker Hill Hotel. It will be held on June 3rd at 2 p.m. in Seminar Room on the 7th floor. You can take taxi but it may take long time, so public transportations such as buses and subways are strongly recommended. The Walker Hill Hotel is located in Gwangjingu which is next to Namsan. Here is a small guide map below. (from City Hall to the hotel)
After conference, you can go sightseeing or take some rest if you want. I’ll be able to show you around Seoul. Don’t worry about accommodation! You can stay at the Walker Hill Hotel or any place you want. There are plenty of good hotels near Namsan such as the Hilton Hotel and the Sejong Hotel. I’m sure you like them. If you want more information, don’t hesitate to contact me. Thanks again, and I’ll look forward to seeing you soon. Have a lovely day!
The King’s English is a book written by Fowler brothers, published in 1906. It is about English usage and grammar. Besides, it mainly deals with British English.
Thank you for e-mailing me. I’m sorry to hear about the late delivery of your order. Your Newsweek magazine for this week was supposed to deliver to you on 19th, the day before yesterday. However, there was a serious strike in a delivery company, so we had to wait until they get to work again. We tried to look for other delivery companies, but all of them were busy doing their own work. Workers and managers met their needs and had a complete negotiation last night. The problem is solved now, so you will get your order this afternoon. I’m so sorry to annoy you. We decided to provide every customer who had a late order problem with free Newsweek for a MONTH. I hope you understand us. I really appreciate your support for our company and this kind of problems will never happen again. If you have any questions or things you want to ask, please visit our website www.cyworld.nate.com/cluber or e-mail me again. Have a great day!
How have you been, grandma? It’s been a long time since I saw you last. I’ve been busy doing school work these days. Mom and dad really want to see you. Well, the reason why I’m writing an e-mail to you is that I want to ask you something. Guess what! We are having a big party this Saturday at home. All my friends will come to congratulate me. Did you know that I’m going to graduate high school, grandma? Well, I will! I want to commemorate my graduation, so my parents and I decided to throw a party. Everthing is fully prepared but food. Mom is not a good cook, you know. I need your help. It would be so grateful if you let me know the recepi of our family’s traditional food, Galbi. I’ve heard of it once before, but I was too young to remember it at that time. I hope you come to my party, but I know you’re in bed. Take care of yourself and I’ll be waiting for your reply. Many thanks, see you, grandma!
I’ve seen many movies recently, but any of them fully satisfied me. For that reason, I’d like to talk about Good Will Hunting. It is about a young man who was incredibly smart in mathematics, but had no dreams. He met a mentor of his life and his teacher changed his life. This movie is a drama. Matt Damon(Will Hunting) and Robin Willams(Sean Maguire) were starred in it.
I’ve first seen it when I was a middle school student. After watching, I burst into tears. It was not a sad movie, but it moved my mind. Since then, Good Will Hunting has been my favorite movie ever. It was much greater than I expected.
In my opinion, King Sejong is the most influential and important Korean figure in history. He was the fourth king during the Chosun Dynasty. He was born in 1397 and died in 1450.
There are mainly three reasons why I think he is important historically. First of all, he directed making science instruments. Hae Si Gye(a kind of a timer using the sun) and Cheuk Wuki(an instrument used to measure amount of rainfall) are good examples. With the development in science, Chosun was one of the strongest countries at that time.
Secondly, King Sejong had many great followers and retainers. He encouraged many young politicians by embracing their creative ideas. This made Chosun progressive and advanced. His open-minded attitude towards his followers made followers faithful to the king and the country, so that there were few riots or protests against the king. Among other things, lastly, the most incredible achievement of King Sejong was ’the invention of Hangeul’. Most of the countries don’t have their own languages. Chosun was also one of them, borrowing Chinese characters and its language. However, King Sejong invented Hangeul-Korean- in 1444. It was so creative, unique and easy that everyone could learn it easily. Since then, Hangeul has been authorized as ‘a great language’. Therefore, I’m sure that King Sejong is the most memorable figure in Korean history so far.
It must have been 3 years ago, when I was a high school student. I used to go to school by bus. It was summer and the bus was full of people. I wanted to sit on a chair but there were people already on chairs, so I had to go to school, standing.
Suddenly, the bus had a sudden stop. I couldn’t control myself because it was a quick braking. I lost my balance and sat on a chair in front of me. Guess what! It was not a ‘chair’ but someone’s ‘LAP‘! I was so embarrassed and so was he. Everybody in the bus was looking at us and started to laugh loudly. I really wanted to jump off a running bus. It was the worst day of my life and I will never forget the day.
